Description

These Butterscotch Chocolate Chip Cookies with Sea Salt combine sweet butterscotch chips, semisweet chocolate chips, buttery cookie dough, and a sprinkle of sea salt for a delicious sweet-and-salty homemade treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (straight from fridge or room temperature)
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour (measured correctly)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butterscotch chips
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • Sea salt sprinkles (for the sweet and salty vibe!)
  • Optional: walnuts

Instructions

  1. Gather and measure all ingredients. Prepare a baking sheet, lining it with parchment paper if desired.
  2. Add the unsalted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar to a large mixing bowl. Mix until well combined.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract. Mix until incorporated, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  4. Add the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix until the dry ingredients are incorporated and a cookie dough forms. Avoid overmixing.
  5. Fold in the butterscotch chips and semisweet chocolate chips. Add the optional walnuts if using, and distribute evenly throughout the dough.
  6. Portion the dough into evenly sized mounds on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between them for spreading.
  7. Sprinkle a little sea salt over the dough portions.
  8. Bake using the temperature and baking time specified in the original recipe instructions. The cookies should have lightly golden edges and centers that are set but may still look soft.
  9. Let the cookies rest briefly on the baking sheet before transferring them to a cooling rack to cool.

Notes

  • Measure the flour carefully using the spoon-and-level method to help prevent dry, dense cookies.
  • Room-temperature butter is easier to mix, but the supplied recipe also allows butter straight from the refrigerator.
  • Walnuts are optional. Add them with the chocolate and butterscotch chips if desired.
  • The original baking temperature, baking time, and yield were not supplied and should be confirmed before publishing.
